Fans and players enjoy the Oxford United Fun Day
Hundreds of Oxford United fans had a fantastic day today as they launched the new season at the annual Fun Day.
The crowds flocked to the training ground to join the first team, youth team and staff for a morning that kicked off with a free coaching session for the junior fans. That was followed by a training session for the first team before they had one last pre-season game – a giant match against the young fans. Helped by an inspired performance in goal by Michael Raynes the first team only conceded a dozen goals or so, although as we have said all pre-season, scorelines are irrelevant at this stage.
The team made up for that defeat with a penalty shoot-out win over the Oxford Mail penalty takers before happily signing autographs for fans for two hours.
Fan Sarah Rudd raised funds for the family of Fid Carter, whose son Jack plays in the United under 12s. Fid sadly passed away at an end of season event but Sarah completed the last 15 miles of her 200-mile bike ride to raise money and shown support for the family.
With a hog roast, golf simulator, bouncy castles, laser quest, shooting speed guns, target shooting, the Oxford City Stars, face painting and loads of other stalls there was fun for everyone while the club shop were on hand to sell the brand new home shirts for the first time.
Our thanks to everyone who came along and made the day such a success. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Fun Day.
