Defender enjoying life with the U's so far
United’s latest signing Luke O’Brien is raring to go ahead of our home game against Bradford City on Saturday.
O’Brien, who made 149 appearances for the Bantams until his move to Exeter City in January, is looking forward to being involved in the squad against his former team.
“It would be absolutely amazing making my debut for Oxford United against one of my old teams,” he said.
“It would be an amazing feeling but nothing’s been said yet. It’s still early for the gaffer to make decisions on tactics and who is going to play and who is going to play where. I’d love to be involved in the 18 but I would be absolutely buzzing if I were given a starting place.
“If I got the nod and the chance to start I would be raring to go. I think there would be some adrenaline there, obviously, a few nerves there as well but once you get into it they go so it would be great to play.”
The 24-year-old,who was released by Exeter in May, is thankful to be back playing for a club after a hard summer.
“You can call it a bit of relief. I was one of the 1000 players out of contract and I knew it was going to be hard going around clubs and trying to impress.
“It was a tough three or four months for me, trying to get a deal and a contract and earn some money because at the end of the day I was jobless for four months but I’ve been given the chance to come down here and impress and I’m thankful to the gaffer for the contract offer and straight away I bit his hand off and I was happy to be involved at Burton.
“I’m loving it here, I think it’s a bit warmer as the weather’s a bit nicer than up north but the training ground and facilities are lovely and the club and the stadium is massive.
“I know the results haven’t gone right for us in the last few weeks but I think every team goes through a slow patch and hopefully we can turn things round and get a result on Saturday.”
