REPORT: Under 18s Win in Wales

Oxford United's under 18s secured the three points at Newport County on Saturday thanks to an amazing comeback from two goals down.

The home side scored two first-half goals, with Oxford responding through leading scorer Leo Snowden just before the break. Snowden scored an equaliser just after the interval before Jack Lee converted from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time to earn a United win.

The game was just 10 minutes old when Orphee Bony steered the ball past Oxford keeper Ajae Patel. This was added to a few minutes later through Declan Roswell to give the Yellows a mountain to climb. However, straight from kick off, Snowden was on hand to smash the ball home and halve the deficit.

Both teams had further opportunities to score in an end-to-end first half, with County keeper Cassius Tanhai playing well and Newport having a goal disallowed for offside.

Lee had a good chance to score just two minutes into the second period but was denied by Tanhai, but four minutes later Snowden wouldn't be denied as he smashed home from a tight angle to level the scores.

Oxford continued to look the most likely to go on and win the game, although they were thankful to Patel for a superb save, pushing a powerful drive onto his post to keep the game on an even keel.

Right at the end, the U's found the goal their performance deserved when a Newport player was penalised for a high foot in the penalty area, and with nerves of steel, Lee stepped up to score the winner.

Next Saturday's home game against Cheltenham Town has been postponed.
