PREVIEW: Oxford United v Peterborough United

Peterborough Tickets

Oxford United take on Peterborough United this evening (7.45pm) in the first round of the Carabao Cup. Oxford will be looking to build on their opening-day win over Norwich City, while Posh will be looking for a response after they lost 2-0 at home to Huddersfield Town.

TEAM NEWS

Des Buckingham told the official web site that, "The game against Peterborough will certainly give us a huge test. They have been a very good team for many years and they have a wonderful coach in Darren Ferguson.

"This [Carabao Cup] and the FA Cup are the only two cup competitions that we're in this year and we want to progress. We've got very hungry players that are keen to show what they can do, and the cup competitions sometimes allow you the chance to mix the group slightly to allow that to happen."

With another Championship game at Coventry City on Friday (8pm), United are likely to make changes to the side that beat Norwich, although new signing Dale Scarlett is unlikely to feature.

THE OPPOSITION

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has said that he will pick a strong team for this evening's fixture as they look for a small measure of revenge against the side that beat them in the League One play-off semi-final last season.

"I will pick what I believe is the strongest team for this game,” Ferguson said. “There will be some changes, but not a huge amount. Some players, like Sam Curtis and Jack Sparkes, need 90 minutes under their belts.

"Obviously it’s a tough tie for us. Oxford haven’t changed formation-wise compared to last season, but they have signed some new players and they delivered a fantastic performance and result on Saturday so they will be full of confidence. We will certainly have to play to a good level to give them a game and I am confident we will.”

Peterborough will be without new captain Hector Kyprianou, who has a knee injury.
