Gary Rowett Reacts To First Win For Oxford United

First game as Oxford United boss, and a first win for Gary Rowett.

A 3-2 victory over Cardiff City on Boxing Day earned United a first three points since early November and the perfect start for the new Head Coach.

Goals from Mark Harris, Ciaron Brown and a wonder strike from Przemyslaw Placheta got the new era off to a winning start and overall, Rowett was pleased with what he saw.

Speaking to OUTV he said: "I think there were lots of parts of it where we were relaxed and we played some some really fluid football to get into good positions.

"So yeah, I'm pleased that we played with that energy, I think the crowd recognised that and I thought they got behind the team as well.

"Second half there was that good feeling in the stadium and everyone seemed to enjoy those moments.

"I said to the players, it doesn't have to be perfect, but try your best to execute the ideas. Some of the football we played was really good, but the game is sometimes imperfect and I thought there were lots of things we done really well.

"We have to find different ways to get goals. I was pleased for Mark because his work rate off the ball is impressive and a lot of his play was so good you felt he deserved a goal.

"The second was a well worked set piece and the lads have had autonomy to do that.

"The third goal, we want the players to feel confident to try those things and I told him to make mistakes and have more freedom."
