Gary Rowett returned to Millwall for Oxford United's first game of 2025, and delivered the U's first away victory of the season with a solid 1-0 victory at The Den.
It was another highly spirited performance from the new Head Coach's side to make it three wins from the opening three games in charge.
Ruben Rodrigues's second half header was enough to settle the game, as United claimed back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season to move further away from the relegation zone.
Speaking after the game, Rowett was delighted with the level his team showed to kick start the new year in style.
He said: "I'm pleased with the start, I'm pleased with the way the players have worked.
"I thought we showed different sides to our game today, coming away from home you don't have as much of the ball at times. But apart from the odd moment, I thought we handled it really well.
"We got the goal early in the second half and it gave us something to build from and we didn't open up too much from it.
"I want both sides like every head coach. To win games away from home means you need to show toughness. You won't come and just play your way through the game, so that was the biggest thing for me today and it's a big three points and I'm really pleased with the performance
"I'm pleased I've been able, we've been able, to come in and try and give them that lift or that ability to go and get those different types of results.
"We've got to build on it, and we've got to go and improve again. We've got to keep getting better and what I'd say is there's a group in there that really wants to work and really wants to learn.
"Hopefully we'll be able to help them climb the table, which is the aim."
