Gary Rowett: Blackburn Win Our Best Performance So Far

Gary Rowett

In Oxford United's first game at home in 2025, Gary Rowett's side produced one of the performances of the season to defeat promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers 1-0.

Cameron Brannagan's thunderous freekick earned the U's all three points, making it 14 points out of the Head Coach's first 18 available since taking charge.

In an assured and dominant performance, Gary said he was immensely proud of what the team showed.

Speaking to OUTV, he said: "We thought it would a different test against a team in the top six who have been in good form. I loved the confidence we showed and we looked a threat. On the ball, it's the best performance out of the six.

"You can see the team have evolved along the six games. Today is what we want to see and the fans got behind the team. I saw so many good things which is really encouraging.

"I have seen a few of those from Cameron over the years. He has such a great spark and it was an amazing strike. Hacks or Shorty said to me that he would score, and it was fantastic.

"Helik was outstanding on and off the ball. Brown complimented him really well, but when you're coming into the team after 30 minutes with the boy was a really experienced performance."
