The U’s put in a strong performance on Saturday at Fratton Park but fell to a narrow defeat to Portsmouth.
Skipper Elliott Moore told iFollow that the Yellows deserved at least a point from the trip to the league leaders.
“It was a tough one to take, to go into the game with the performances that we’ve had we needed a reaction and I think we definitely did that.
“It’s very disappointing not to come away with everything. It was frustrating to concede the goal that we did but to get the reaction early on and I thought after that we controlled the game for large parts. A very good performance and we need to take that into Saturday now and go and get three points.
“We wanted to come out on the front foot at half time and the goal was sloppy on our part and we know we need to be better than that. It was their day today; they got the luck and we didn’t despite having the most chances.
“Our fans were very loud and their was brilliant support as always, the away following is always like that so credit to them and hopefully the performance from us was enough but we know we need three points.
“We have to take the positives now and work on the things that we can do better and take that into a big game back at home on Saturday.”
