We are pleased to announce that defender Joe Bennett has agreed an extension to his deal with the club that will see him remain at Oxford United until at least the end of the season.
The experienced left-back has been a regular starter since joining as a free agent in December and Head Coach Des Buckingham explained that extending the deal was a straight-forward decision for both the U’s and the player.
“It has worked out extremely well,” Des said. “Joe is a top professional and slotted straight into the group and the team. People have to remember that he was without a club and hadn’t played for six months so to perform like he has done is credit to the way he looks after himself and the standards he sets. I am sure he will play a big part in a successful second half of the season.”
Joe told us:
“It’s good to get things settled because this is where I want to play my football. We are in the play-off places, have been playing in front of big crowds and this is an exciting point of the season. I want to be part of that.
“Credit to the Gaffer and to the players because I was made to feel part of things very quickly. We now have to put in another strong performance when we restart the league season at Carlisle on Saturday.”
