RIP Robin Gladwin

Oxford United are saddened to hear of the death of our former defender Robin Gladwin at the age of 83

Robin was born in 1940, arriving within a few minutes of his twin brother Martin.

He played for local teams up to the late ‘50s before joining lower league teams Harlow Town, Cambridge City and Chelmsford City. His big break came in 1966 with a move to Norwich City. Robin joined Oxford United in 1968 but multiple injuries meant his time here was limited to two years before he retired in 1970. He made 48 appearances for the U's.

Robin made his home in Oxfordshire, marrying Jennie, a local girl, in 1970. They had three sons: Chris, Nick and Jeremy. He stayed active in football, managing boys' football teams during the mid-80s to 90s in Garsington. They later moved to Cowley and then Didcot.

He was a true gentleman, caring, non-judgemental and a friend to all. Our love and best wishes are with his family and friends.

A service for Robin will be held on Friday 6th October in Wheatley.
