Oxford United had a frustrating evening at the DW Stadium last night as they slipped to a first defeat in seven games.
United remain second in the League 1 table despite losing 2-0 to a goal in each half for Wigan but as Liam Manning told iFollow after, it is now about how his side respond when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.”
“It was a very frustrating evening” he said. “It feels a little like we beat ourselves to be honest. Wigan had a gameplan and were extremely difficult to beat, well organised, and then what you can’t do is give them opportunities through mistakes or being careless.
“We got punished for that tonight but alongside it there were long-term positives when you look back at how we kept hold of the ball and controlled periods of the game. It was just the final actions that we were lacking.
“So yes, hugely frustrating but we have to lick our wounds, be disappointed and then be ready to go again on Saturday.
“We have to respond and I think we have shown that we can do that before this season so yes, be annoyed and emotional immediately after but then rest up, learn from it and be ready to work hard on Thursday and Friday and go again to put things right on Saturday.”
