Oxford United may have lost to Arsenal last night but the whole club can be proud of the way they took on the Premier League giants.
That’s the view of defender Sam Long, one of many outstanding players for the U’s on a night where they were a match for their visitors for much of the game
“We can definitely be proud of what we did as a club” he told iFollow. “Up until 60 minutes it didn’t look like a 3-0 game at all. Their quality for the goals is why they are where they are, but we can take pride in our performance and a lot of positives out of the way we played against world class opposition.
“They just had that quality on and off the ball, their pressing, everything. They are so good at what they do and that’s why they are where they are.
"They are top of the Premier League for good reason. The goals were about the delivery and the finishes; we will happily hold our hands up and say we made a few mistakes and against a team like Arsenal when you make a mistake you get punished. That’s exactly what happened tonight.
“But the fans were brilliant and the occasion was something we want a lot more of so we take the positives out of tonight, look back on it, then we start to prepare for the game at Fleetwood on Saturday.
“That is now the most important thing.”
