Oxford United Women return to League action this weekend as they take on Cheltenham Town Ladies at the Corinium Stadium this Sunday, the 5th of February. Kick off is at 2PM.
The U’s will be looking for a reaction after being knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup last weekend by Bristol City. A win would see them strengthen their position at the top of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.
Cheltenham sit sixth in the division and come into the game off the back of a strong 4-0 away win at Billericay last weekend.
Striker Carly Johns, who scored twice in the 5-0 win in the reverse fixture, is confident the squad will bounce back after only their second defeat of the season.
“It was a good experience to face a team in the League above, but now we focus on the League. The mindset within this group is excellent. Cheltenham have got a good result last weekend, so we’ll do our analysis the way we normally do and build from there. They’ll provide a different threat than what we are used to so we are looking forward to it.”
Manager Liam Gilbert told us
“We’re confident that the squad have put last week behind them, taken what we needed to learn from it and will use it as motivation to react in the right way not just against Cheltenham but for the rest of the season.
“We now need to focus on the League and it’s going to be a tough challenge this weekend at Cheltenham, who never make it easy. We played really well last time out against them so hopefully we can replicate that but we know that they made it difficult for us at points, so we’ve had a look at that and are just excited to get back on the pitch again.”
