Oxford United bowed out of the Papa Johns Trophy last night with a 2-0 defeat at Sutton United.
“It hurts because you don’t like getting beat or going out of competitions” Karl Robinson told iFollow.
“Tonight helps me get more clarity about some things. Tonight I thought the performance did deserve more, but we also got bullied in a lot of areas.
“Not in a way that takes anything away from Sutton’s performance at all but if you look at their goals for the first the lad runs ten yards without being challenged, and then someone gets outjumped, and we also let a player get the run on us. Then for the penalty we needed to be more aggressive in the central part of the pitch and then we left a leg dangling to give a penalty away.
“If you take two set plays out of the game we were probably the better side: Matty Taylor hit the bar, Tyler had a header and their goalkeeper got Man of the Match so we did make chances but people have to train properly and perform when they get the opportunity.
“It hurts to lose but the bigger picture is where do we go from here? We have to get it right, and we will do.”
