James Henry’s late goal moved Oxford United into the play-off places with a 2-1 win at Doncaster last night.
Henry scored his fifth United goal against Doncaster to seal an important win and told us that scoring in front of the travelling fans again was a great moment.
“We should have won the game earlier." he said. "We started brilliantly and the way we moved the ball and created chances was excellent. We started getting sloppy towards the end of that half though and a few stray passes started to happen. Then Doncaster make changes at half-time and it is so strange how you never see two halves of football the same.
“Doncaster got their goal and got themselves back into it and then we had to lift ourselves again. There were a few tight decisions with offside goals, a few missed chances, but we kept going and the three points was all that mattered in the end.
“The away fans were amazing. To come up here on a cold Tuesday evening was a fantastic effort and to score that goal in front of them was a great feeling. “
Boss Karl Robinson also paid tribute to the away fans as well as his own team’s resilience.
“What an ask” he said. “To go all the way to Sunderland, get back to Oxfordshire then travel back up here tonight. That’s a great effort from everyone. We managed to rotate the team, we will have fresh legs available for the weekend and now we get ourselves back home again and get set for the game at MK on Saturday.”
