John Lundstram signs for Sheffield United

Oxford United can confirm that John Lundstram has completed his transfer to Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The former Everton midfielder joined the U’s in August 2015 and played a leading role in the promotion push in his first season before being named captain ahead of the 2016/17 season. In total he made 96 starts plus eight sub appearances for the U’s, scoring four times.

Manager Pep Clotet said:

“John has been a big part of the club for the past two seasons and has always given his best. He is ambitious and had the chance to play in a higher division, and from our point of view, we tried our best to persuade him to stay. Having said this, we have received an attractive fee for a player who was entering the last year of his contract and this will allow further reinvestment to build squad quality and depth.

“He can certainly leave here with his head held high and we wish John the best of luck for the future.”
