U's defender commits for two more years
Young defender Sam Long today signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at United until 2017.Bicester-born Long, 20, who made his Oxford debut at Accrington Stanley in April 2013, made 10 appearances last season, mostly at right back but also performing well when called on to fill in at centre back and, on one occasion, left back. He scored his first goal for the club in January, against Southend United, heading home from a Callum O'Dowda corner.
Sam told us: "It was a straightforward decision. It's been a long summer trying to sort it out but I'm happy now. I'm going to come back and work as hard as I can to give myself the best possible chance to get in the starting line-up. I've kept myself in good shape over the summer and can't wait to get back into pre-season."
