Left back Tom Newey offered new contract
Defender Tom Newey has been offered a contract extension by Oxford United as the club completes its retained list following the end of the 2013/14 season.
Newey, 31, joined United from Scunthorpe at the start of this season and played 47 times for United last season, scoring once.
Head coach Gary Waddock said: “As with James Constable, we would like Tom to stay and be part of what we are looking to build. Tom wants to go and talk about it with his family, which I fully understand, but we hope both players will give us answers soon.”
Meanwhile three of United’s promising youngsters today signed their first professional contracts as Aidan Hawtin, James Roberts and Sam Humphreys all put pen to paper.
Striker Roberts, 17, netted 25 times for the youth team last season with winger Humphreys, second top scorer. Hawtin, able to play up front or in midfield, is a year older at 18 having missed one year of his scholarship through injury.
