United expand their range as midfielder joins
Oxford United have been widening their net to bring talented youngsters into the club.
Following the news earlier in the week that Max Crocombe, Ty Marsh, Sam Long, David Lynn and Callum O'Dowda have all signed long-term professional contracts United are pleased to announce that former Reading midfielder Josh Shama has also signed for the U's.
Josh came to the club as part of a series of trial games that were played at the end of last season where young players who were not being offered contracts at other clubs were invited to train and play with the U's.
The 18-year-old midfielder caught the eye in the trial games with some stylish performances and will now have a chance to show what he can do on a one year contract with a further year option for the club.
He said:
"This is a fantastic opportunity. I have been made to feel very welcome ever since the trials and am looking forward to pre-season. The club are investing in developing young players, the infrastructure with the sports science, Football Squad software and facilities are great and it is an exciting time to be joining. "
Josh will be part of the new development squad this season. This squad, made up mostly of under 21 players will play competitive games against fellow development squads to help them make the step into the first team.
