Goalkeeper Max Crocombe called up for New Zealand under-20 World Cup squad
Oxford United keeper Max Crocombe has been named in the New Zealand under-20 squad for the OFC under-20 Championship to be played in Fiji from March 21 to 29. If the Junior All Whites can claim the Oceania tournament they will then earn a spot in the under-20 World Cup that will be played in Turkey in June and July.Max is one of two goalies in the squad that coach Chris Milicich named yesterday. Milicich said, "We've been tracking Max for a couple years now. Max is highly regarded at Oxford and someone they believe will kick on and play at a higher level."
Max was obviously thrilled to hear the news. He told www.oufc.co.uk: "I am absolutely chuffed. It's brilliant news. It's the next step on the ladder and I know I've still got a long way to go to get to where I want to be, but this means a lot to me.
"I was called up for the under-18s two years ago but dislocated my shoulder and didn't travel, so this is a great opportunity for me and obviously a big honour."
Everyone at Oxford United would like to congratulate Max and wish him the best of luck.
