United and Abingdon Youth celebrate a year's success

This Saturday local football club Abingdon Youth FC are visiting Oxford United to celebrate the one year anniversary of the popular Partners in the Youth Community Football initiative.

Abingdon Youth was the first club to participate in the scheme developed jointly between the clubs with the aspirations of integrating youth football and OUFC in the Oxfordshire region which has seen 10 additional clubs sign up over the course of the year. Chairman Nathan Franks had this to say about the impressive milestone:

"Since coming together we have felt the support of OUFC in helping us expand and develop our club to achieve our goals as well as bringing the younger players into contact with OUFC and developing a support for our local team, we have worked closely with James Peterson and OUFC and the first year has exceeded all expectations, we are very proud to be the first to do this and subsequently see other clubs come on board and enjoy the same relationship’".

Partnership Officer James Peterson went on to say:

"Having Abingdon Youth join us this Saturday to celebrate the one year anniversary is a tremendous achievement. Abingdon Youth was the first club to take part in the Guard of Honour package when I first arrived the club and through the seasons we have taken part in some exciting and rewarding experiences. Nathan and company are all Oxford United fans and that is the type of people who help promote our links in the grassroot community.”
