Gary Rowett Proud Of United Performance In Plymouth Draw

Gary Rowett

Gary Rowett's undefeated start in the Championship as Oxford United Head Coach continued following a 1-1 draw away to Plymouth Argyle.

Will Vaulks' thunderous first goal for the Club opened the scoring in the first half,  but despite plenty of United pressure, a second half Argyle equaliser saw the points shared.

Siriki Dembele came close on two occasions right at the death to earn all three points but Gary says he was proud of the effort his side put in at Home Park.

He said: "That's three away games in the league and five points, but it arguably could have been more for us tonight.

"If we have slightly better finishing we could have got all three points, but it's a brilliant effort, especially when we had to make changes during the game.

"It's a really determined group who want to fight for each other. In the three games away from home we can play with more composure but you have to fight to get points.

"We didn't look in too much danger as the game went on and we finished the game well.

"Will has been fantastic in a slightly different role where he is less isolated. It was a fantastic strike and a good move for us, and it was a wonderful finish which is so pleasing.

"I couldn't ask much more from the boys. The fans were superb again travelling down here after the trip to Exeter on Saturday.

"To have them clapping at the end and pleased with the effort is great and I'm not too disappointed with one point in the end."
