Oxford United under 18's beaten by Exeter City
United’s under 18s suffered a rare defeat on Saturday as they lost 2-0 at home to Exeter City.
Chris Allen told us:
“It was a very tight game. We won 5-1 at their place earlier in the season but I said at the time that the scoreline had flattered us and that was proven in this game because they played very well again.
“It was a close game for a long time but they got the breakthrough and then scored a ridiculous goal from 50 yards where their centre half has launched a shot from half way straight over the keeper. Credit to the lad for the strike and I also thought he did very well against our two forwards.
“I thought one goal might win it because the sides were evenly matched. Exeter got back into their shape very quickly whenever we got the ball so maybe we didn’t move it quite quickly enough but we had a lot of the ball in their final third, got in some good crosses but nothing came from that.
“We maybe needed that bit more desire or purpose and if we’d had that then we would have come away with a more positive result.
“There are always positives and it is nice to see Conor Ingram back playing after a nightmare with injury over the last year. “
